Jewelry Update

Friends and jewelry lovers,

I thought I was overdue for posting an update on Crystal Lotus Jewelry.

My primary focus right now is to add jewelry information to this site, including finishing the birthstones pages and adding to the symbolic meaning of stones. I'm also longing to write about healing stones, since they were the start of my making jewelry in the first place.

I've also got lots of beautiful jewelry to post and some amazing prayerbeads to support your spiritual practice.

As always, if you've got jewelry in mind (in heart?) and you can't find it here, be sure and contact me at mahala (at) CrystalLotusJewelry (dot) com. I'll happily email you images of what I have or make a special piece just for you.

Jewelry Blog Blog

Some of you blog friends -- and you know who you are :-) -- Have my jewelry blog page listed with an old URL.

Here's the new one for my jewelry blog page:

Jewelry Thoughts

When I look at all the jewelry that's available in the marketplace, I wonder how people started making it. I wonder why they started making it. Mostly I wonder if they experience the joy that I feel every time I string a necklace or a strand of prayer beads. This jewelry blog part is a chance to share some of that journey with you. The story of how I started out. The sparkling energy of healing stones. The prayers that arise make while creating your jewelry... I'm looking forward to putting these experiences into words. And I'm looking forward to some online conversation with those of you who are as humbled -- and excited -- by these healing gemstone energies as I am.

A special Tashi Delek! to all visitors from Snow Lion Publications.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Snow Lion, they publish a free quarterly newsletter and catalog-- and are themselves publishers of some of the most valuable Buddhist teachings, art, music and literature available today.

I've been reading the newsletter for years, so it's exciting to have my first advertisement there.

Buddhist Prayer Beads Update

I've long had the wish to offer many more Buddhist prayer beads malas than are currently available on this site.

I love the idea that I can make something beautiful that will actually aid people in their meditation practice. At the same time, prayer beads make wonderful gifts for both women and men. They give men (who are unlikely to wear gemstone jewelry) the opportunity to experience the energy of these beautiful stones. And prayer beads can support people going through various spiritual shifts and changes, even if they use the prayer beads in non-traditional ways.

One of the things that has significantly slowed my prayer bead making is the tassels. The tassel has significance in some Buddhist (and other) traditions and I've always wanted to include them. But I've had problems finding the right kind of cord or thread and I sometimes want something more elegant than commercial tassels.

I'm happy to announce, after extensive research on tassel making, I've discovered some lusterous rayon thread that I think will make beautiful prayer bead tassels.

Hope to have some new prayer bead malas for you to see by mid-month!
